Albuquerque International Sunport (ABQ) is New Mexico’s largest airport. Over 6 million travelers utilize the services of the airport every year, and if you do not plan ahead your trip here could be a disaster. But this does not have to be; plan ahead and make reservations.
Shuttle Service
Many hotels in the area surround the airport provide courtesy shuttle service between ABQ and their establishments. Before finalizing with any specific company; ask if they provide this service, because this will save you from having to hire a taxi, limo, or bus.
Paid shared-ride shuttle service is provided by Sunport Shuttle; they charge a fee of $11 for a one-way trip to the downtown area. After the first person has paid full far; additional people may join the ride for $5 each.
Bus
If you are traveling with a few pieces of luggage; taking the public bus transportation system may be the best and lease expensive way to get in and out of airport grounds. The fare is $1 for a one-way adult ticket, $0.35 for students age 10 through High School and honored citizens (persons 62+), and children under 10 get to ride for free if they are accompanied by a paying adult.
If you are traveling as a group you may be interested in charter services. Hiring a charter bus will ensure that your group stays together and may work out cheaper for everybody. There are 9+ companies that serve travelers at ABQ, for a complete list please check out the link below.
Rental Car
To get a rental car you will have to visit the Sunport Car Rental Center located at 3400 University SE. The car rental companies you can expect to find at the center are: Advantage, Alamo, Avis, Budget, Enterprise, Hertz, National, and Thrifty. Courtesy shuttles are provided to carry you from terminals to the car rental center, and since they leave every 5 minutes there is virtually no wait time. Handicap-accessible shuttles are provided.
Limousine & Executive Car
ABQ recommends three limousine services: American Limousine, Star Limo, Carey Southwest Limousine, and On Demand Sedan, Inc. These are not your only options when it comes to limo service, but these are the most reputable companies some of which operate 24/7. As always please call and make reservations in advance.
Taxi Cab
For taxi service please contact Albuquerque Cab Company (505-883-4888) or Yellow Cab Company (505-247-8888), these companies provide 24/7 door-to-door service.
Tips
Whenever you are traveling it is better to make reservations in advance; it saves time and money. Check online as well as phoning the companies, because many deals/specials can only be found online. Also ask if your hotel is partnered with any specific rental companies, as hotel and car bundles work out to be cheaper for the most part.
Remember to only ride with authorized drivers; ask to see their airport identification badge and check the vehicle to make sure it is authorized with the airport decal one the bumper.
